Brian,

What a brilliant idea for a post! I shall have to look and see what was No: 1 the month & year I was born.

I reckon Wikipedia will be the best place to look:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

.. and search for "Number one singles of 1942".

I sort of knew it would be this one. My father was always going on about it. My parents were abroad in China in 1942, so dreaming of a 'White Christmas' and the folks back home was a very nostalgic song for them.

"White Christmas" is a 1942 Irving Berlin song reminiscing about an old-fashioned Christmas setting. The version sung by Bing Crosby is the world's best-selling single with estimated sales in excess of 100 million copies worldwide.

Hi Hugh Brian and Fred enjoyed the two tunes and sang along to them vaughn monroe was a great singer and trumpet player other hits were ghost riders and there ive said it again the crosby hit I used to play on acordian in 1942 My year of birth was 1928 and with my poor computer skill the best I came up with is I cant give you anything but love baby recorded by doris day and ella fitzgerald. I knew the lyrics to the song before I played it. Best Regards To All mikeG.

Fred (dragon). It's not the music that hadn't been invented when you were born, it was a means of recording it!

George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue came out in 1924, which in 1930 was included in the Technicolour film called 'King Of Jazz'.
This restored clip courtesy of UNIVERSAL STUDIOS features the newly restored "Rhapsody In Blue" number from "KING OF JAZZ" (1930), as painstakingly restored in 2015/16 by Universal Studios. This is the very first time since 1930 that we are actually seeing the 2-Strip Technicolor as was originally printed/produced 88 years ago. In other words - we are finally seeing what the original 1930 audiences saw. Back then they could not reproduce the colour blue; hence the tinge of Mint Green/Sage Green/Puce Green... all were attempts to render a hint of blue.

What an amazing idea for a film! Have never seen anything like that before, ever!

Fred. I think maybe your 'memories' do not go back very far. According to Wikipedia:
Memories Are Made of This is a popular song written by Terry Gilkyson, Richard Dehr, and Frank Miller in 1955.
