Recording an MP3 on the 900

Postby Brian007 » 19 Oct 2014 17:36

Hi all

Just a quick word about recording an mp3, I would have thought that the process would be completely automatic in that the levels for recording would be adjusted automatically but there not

You need to be careful that you do not have to high a level set in the limiter and the Master E.Q or it will distort the mp3 recording as I found out

I have now set up a limiter pre-set especially for recording mp3

I do an equalization on all my MP3's after converting them from audio .wav files. That way everything will be at the same listening levels. Really helps if you burn them to CD's. You can use Audacity to do this or I prefer a program called MP3 Gain. It also removes clipping and is very user friendly. I have mine set to equalize to 89.0db. Both are free programs downloaded from the internet.

Thanks Wally

It was through checking the recording in Audacity that I saw the Clipping and Just how overloaded the tracks were
will check out your suggestion

Hi Brian,
You have me at a loss about MP3 recording as you know i have the PA3X and to record an Mp3 i just set the recording to highest and store onto HD. play any performance at a normal sort of sound level. and never have i had any distortions at all. my posts in the forum are all done this way, from the HD to USB into Boxnet into TDP with no readjustments to the song settings. how simple is that. hope it helps. ATB. jackoj. :) :) :D

Its not a problem more an observation John,

As long as I keep the level to a sensible level all is well,
I must have set the limiter a little to high, now I know I can compensate
Once I had made a few minor adjustments to the level, it records great straight
to the SD card then onto memory stick.

I just thought That the levels would be automatically set as in the little old cassette recorders used to be
I was wrong , every things fine now :D
