Slow Boat to China

Postby Hugh-AR » 25 Apr 2022 22:36

(I'd Like to Get You on a) Slow Boat to China is a popular song by Frank Loesser, published in 1948. In the UK, the biggest hit version was recorded in 1959 by Emile Ford & The Checkmates peaking at #3 in the official singles chart.

I decided to use the Organ Flute Drawbars for this one and experiment with the Rotary Speaker ON/OFF operated by a footswitch. Also, I have used three completely different STYLES, each with a different beat.

The video is based on the words of the song:

I'd like to get you on a slow boat to China
    All to myself alone
Get you and keep you in my arms evermore
Leave all your lovers weeping on the faraway shore

Where do the words "Slow boat to China" come from?
The idea is that a slow boat to China was the longest trip one could imagine. Loesser moved the phrase to a more romantic setting, yet it eventually entered general parlance to mean anything that takes an extremely long time.
