Hymns for 22nd November 2020

Postby Rev Tony Newnham » 21 Nov 2020 09:05

Hi

Just 2 this week. Sunday is the celebration of "Christ the King", so we start with the obvious hymn "Crown Him with many crowns".

The other recording is a now classic worship song, which I decided to play on organ - "Jesus is King, and I will extoll Him"

Every Blessing

Hi Tony,

Enjoyed those, particularly the first one which is an old favourite. You have played that with such confidence! Not surprising really, and I wonder how many times over the years you have played this?

Glad to see you have your halo on. Enables you to listen to what you are playing.

Hi Hugh

The headphones have become a necessity. When I started recording these hymns we all thought the covid thing would soon be over, so I just used fairly decent microphones, but of course they pick-up unwanted noises off. I investigated getting a direct output from the organ - there are 4 connections inside intended for use with external speaker systems, and various ranks can be routed to them, so I thought it would be easy. It's not, and it seems that there's no simple way of just sending a stereo signal to a pair of outputs without destroying the routing to the multiple internal speakers (seems like a basic requirement to me, but there you go). I've been in touch with a few people at Viscount, both here & in the USA with no success, so in desperation, I decided to use the headphone output - hence in order to hear what I'm playing I have to use headphones plugged into one of the cameras! Far from ideal, but at least it works.

Thanks for the positive comments. I dread to think how many times I've played that - and many other popular hymns - I've been involved in church music for 60 years next year, and started playing organ 2 years after that.

Every Blessing

Hi!

On my yamaha organ I use the headphone output with a splitter. So I can record and use phones at the same time.

Hi

I suppose I could do that, but I'm already splitting the output to 2 or 3 cameras, and sometimes also a digital audio recorder, and listening to the output from a camera does at least mean that I'm fairly sure that there are no bad connections.
