Hymns for All Saints Day 2020 (1st Nov)

Postby Rev Tony Newnham » 31 Oct 2020 10:51

Hi

Just 2 hymns for the congregation this week - plus a bonus track. It's been a busy week, what with 2 hospital visits (one for a blood test & the other a research project I'm signed up for), plus an extra visit to church to meet with the organ technician & sort out a fault on my Content 224 organ there, and a meeting about the Christmas services.

First up is the obvious hymn for All Saints Day - "For all the saints"

The closing song is "Salvation belongs to our God" - I've double-tracked this with piano & organ.

The bonus track is a hymn that's not widely known - I came across it in the late '60's when I deputised on organ for a service at Acton Baptist Church. It's irreverently known as "The saint's tea party"! (See the words of verse 3 for the reason!)

Enjoy

Every Blessing

Tony

It is true, a very busy week for you. Going around like this, you need to pay close attention to the safety parameters, and obviously you do. I really liked Salvation belongs to our God, very melodic. Interestingly the word TEA appears only once and gives the hymn a name. All the best.

Thanks Carloss

I'm very aware of the safety issues regarding the Covid situation, as I have several health issues.

It was announced yesterday evening that England is going into a 4 week lockdown starting on Thursday (just watch the idiots break the rules before then!). Church will be closed after the service today, but the on-line presence will continue, so hopefully, plenty more recordings!

Every Blessing

Hi Tony. Remember the first one and had me singing along. Liked the second one with the mixture of organ and piano made it different. Also enjoyable third one. Perhaps I should join in with the tea party as I am having a cuppa with my sandwich in the conservatory. I think you hit the nail on the head with regards to our lockdown. People will never learn or take notice of laws and advice. Hope we get a vaccine soon. Keep very safe. All the best. Looking forward to more Sunday tunes. John

Thanks John

Certainly more recordings to come - we were planning a "Songs of Praise" style service in a couple of weeks, which will now go on-line only. Not sure how many hymns that's going to include!

Every Blessing
