Hymns/Songs for 3/5/2020

Postby Rev Tony Newnham » 01 May 2020 12:04

Hi

Here's what my minister has chosen for next Sunday - plus a bonus voluntary on a simulation of a very rare keyboard instrument! Enjoy

Jesus is Lord

My Hope is Built on Nothing Less

Lord, I Come before Your Throne of Grace

O Sacred Head

Enjoy!

Hi Tony,

How do the congregation get to hear you playing these? Do you have a Zoom going for the congregation on a Sunday?

Again, I am smitten by the sound of your Viscount Envoy 35FV organ (the first video).

Hi

With around half of our elderly congregation not being tech savvy, the church decided to provide printed or e-mailed worship material each week. Links to the music on my You Tube channel are included for those who want to use the music to sing along to. I try and match the mood of each verse/part of verse with the music.

I hear that the e-mails are going beyond our congregation, and I'm also sending the music to a handful of people, I've also just heard that there's now a link to my channel on the Coventry & Warwickshire Organists' Association web site, and I'm also posting on Facebook in some relevant groups, and getting positive (mainly) feedback, and have heard that at least one hymn should be used in another church's live stream today.

It's a fair amount of work (you can't get away with the odd wrong notes that would go unnoticed live) but I'm quite enjoying it.

Every Blessing

Hi Tony. Just back from two hours at the allotment. Enjoyed my Sunday morning listen. Not ones I know, agree with Hugh like the organ. Glad you are keeping busy. Keep safe. John

tony,

I quite agree with your comment that you can't get away with the odd wrong notes that would go unnoticed live. They may (and probably will) go unnoticed by an individual listener, but every time you watch it any mistakes will stick out like a sore thumb. I'm a believer that if it's worth doing, it's worth doing properly.

Hi

Thanks for the comments. Glad you're enjoying my contributions even though they're not in the mainstream for the site!

I find that if you listen to a recording a couple of times, mistakes do show up - and I have one LP that I bought years ago and got fed up with because several mistakes slipped through, and after a while you're expecting them. It rather spoils the experience.

Every Blessing

Tony,

You never know, perhaps second time round playing it they'll get it right. I say this to my wife when we're watching action replays of sport on the television.
