Have you ever played a piece with some 'special effects'? Any special sounds that you have brought into your music? This can include using multipads, pitch bend etc.

Here's one from John Traves (JPT).

Do you have a piece you can include in this topic? Email hugh@ar-group.org

Hello, This I have done with "Danny Boy". Start with 'wind' blowing - Talk - A young lady is standing on the cliff top looking out to the sea. It is a cold, dark winters day and it looks like a storm is brewing; "Thunder" using the panpot to get the effect of the thunder rolling across the sky. She hears the waves breaking on the shingle beach far below. "A little rain and wind and the waves on shingle" Talk - She is watching a boat carrying her loved one to another land to find a better life for them. It starts to rain (quietly) and then she hears the pipes playing in the cafe across the road behind her. "Play Irish Pipes gently" She hurries over to the cafe with tears in her eyes. The musicians see her come in and the accordion and the Irish flute (not the Irish Pipes) play "Danny Boy". The finale is the quieter thunder rolling across the sky's as the piece ends.

Takes a little practice to get it all together but I have had audiences in tears and great applause because it is a story that touches the heart.

The sound effects are in the GM of XG files somewhere. Build up the registration buttons with the sounds, style and voices; even pre-record some if needed. Tempo for the song is 95 to100 BPM. The telling of the story is slow, deliberate and sorrowful.
Have fun.
Regards, Den.

Hugh has asked me if I can put this together as I have described above, so here it is.

Danny Boy Story & Music setup
Talk: It is a cold winter’s day. A young lady stands on the cliff top looking out over the sea.

    Wind noise
Talk: The wind is whipping around her skirts and tussles her hair.

    Waves and shingle
Talk: She hears the waves breaking on the shingle beach far below. She senses that a storm is brewing.

    Louder wind
Talk: A boat comes into view from the harbour It is carrying her loved one who is off to distant shores to find a better life for them.

    Thunder (panpot)
Talk: Thunder breaks, cracking across the sky. It starts to rain. She turns away, a tear in her eye, and hears the sound of the pipes from the café across the road.

    Irish pipes quietly
Talk: She hurries across and enters. As she enters the musicians see her and start to play.

Click the LINK above to play. Afterwards, click the back-button to return to this page.

    Thunder (panpot) fading away

If you want the STYLE for this you can download it from the attachment below.

The registration is fairly simple to put together. I put the weather onto buttons 5-8 and the Pipes and accordion onto buttons 1-4.
