The Challenge - What Categories would you like to see

Postby Brian007 » 17 Dec 2018 08:42

Hi ALL,

Casting around for fresh new Ideas for themes for our Challenge section, so if you have any, now would be a good time to bring them out into the open. We try to keep the challenges as open ( not too specific ) as possible so that everyone can enter regardless of their playing abilities ..

So please feel free to post any Ideas you may have here for consideration.

Thanks Brian007

Hello, Brian, How about Nursery Rhymes? Experienced players could alternate with variations in a minor key. Just a thought. Regards, Den.

Hi Den,

We also have to consider that one of the perks of 'winning' the Challenge is that our 'winning performances' get an airing on Ian Wolstenholme's Oldham Community Radio. So we have to think of how a bunch of amateurs would go down slotted in between the professionals playing .. and I don't think Nursery Rhymes would go down well.

I can understand that playing Nursery Rhymes in different ways would be a good exercise for students in a Music School, but Nursery Rhymes as a project don't appeal to me at all!

Sorry!

Anybody got another idea they would like to see for a 'Challenge'?

Hugh

Hi

It's surprising just what can be done with nursery rhymes by a very skilled player/composer! Here's Rick Wakeman's Nursery Rhyme Concerto.

Hi Tony. Went to see him recently in Durham. He was excellent and very funny. He also did nursery rhymes. Well worth a visit to see him if you get the chance. John

Hi John

I have many of his recordings (need to make more space for his stuff on my CD shelves!) but not managed to see him live yet - and given the cost of tickets and my mobility problems, that doesn't look likely anytime soon.

Every Blessing
