The Apple Ipad can be used as and external sound module by anyone that has a Keyboard / Organ or even just a Midi Keyboard with a Midi connection
Korg are leading the field at the moment with sound module apps which cost a fraction of the cost of the original Keyboard Synthesiser or hardware moduel

So if you have an Ipad and would like to add up to 3300 extra voices for you music production here's a video showing just one of the available apps

Brian,

Thanks for this. Bronwyn has an iPad but I'm not sure how happy she will be if I borrow it and start putting music on it. I have a laptop and an organ; she has an iPad.

Roland have also released this for the Ipad one of their most Iconic sound modules The Sound Canvas
This is not as versatile as the korg app but still has some great sound for you to add to your music production or performances
Here are some videos giving an Idea of the voices that are available with this app which cost £19.99 at the moment.

Another one on this short series is an app called "Sample Tank" the initial app is free with a limited number of free voices
now these voices are top quality and are the type used by studios for music in TV adverts etc. and are available as what's called in app purchases
and are not cheap top quality and are very good ( I have this app but not bought any other voices - too expensive for me I just use the free ones )

All the apps in this short series are available from Itunes
