Organ Voluntaries

A mixed bag of organ voluntaries, some Victorian in style, a couple from the Early English era, and a couple of others.

First up one of two pieces by Caleb Simper. This is tuneful music, fairly simple to play, and has remained in print for decades.

Another item from the same composer

Moving back in time, 2 pieces by John Marsh. Written for the early English organ before pedals were widespread.

I've also posted the next 3 items in the Religious Music category, but thought I'd also put them here. We come rather more up to date, with 2 pieces by the late Noel Rawsthorne, formerly organist of Liverpool Anglican Cathedral.

And coming right up to date, a prelude on the hymn "Blessed Assurance" by my Facebook friend Ivan Furlanis, published just last year,

Enjoy

Every Blessing

Hi Tony. Only knew the last three. I always like watching and listening to you play you make it look so easy. Thanks for Londonderry air one of my favourites. Keep safe and well. All the best. John

Tony,

I just love the sound of your Viscount Envoy 35FV Digital Organ.

Thanks Hugh

The Viscount range, especially their organs using their Physis real time computer simulation technology are, IMHO, by far the best sounding digital organs around. The voicing can be tweaked quite significantly. Earlier this year I had Jeremey Meager of Cotswold do some re-voicing, which improved it even further. That said, it was good to get back to playing real pipes occasionally as lock-down eases! The 2 I've played recently couldn't be more different - a Neo-Baroque tracker (mechanical action) organ in a local church, and the Compton theatre organ in Fentham Hall.

Every Blessing

Tony

We have a Compton organ in the Odeon Cinema in Weston-super-Mare .. one of two left in Odeons in the UK. The other is in the Odeon in Leicester Square. Ours is two manual and works on DC, so has a power converter to convert the 230 volts AC to 230 volts DC.

Just opposite the cinema is a Methodist Church with a 3 manual Compton Organ and that works off 230v AC. Don't know if that can be played 'as a Theatre Organ' ie. with tremolo and 'noises off'.
