Brian,

That has the most amazing sound. And playing 'in amongst the stars' is probably the only way I would manage to get something meaningful out of an amazing keyboard like this. Perhaps at the next release we will see whether or not it has 'piano keys' or whether you play on circuit boards.

Please keep us up to date as things progress.

Hi Hugh,

There's no doubt about it, Yamaha are among the leaders in the field of Technology especially with keyboards
so it will be interesting to actually see a real picture of it and just exactly what its true capabilities are.

I am still learning the true capabilities of what the Tyros 5 can do, so it will be interesting to see just
what Yamaha think we need now ?

A quick update,

Dont know how much of this is true but this is supposed to part of the spec for the new Keyboard

New file formats...

For both song and styles...

The new 16 track song player/recorder will support both midi as well as audio tracks
You can even bounce a midi track to audio (and keep the midi track in the format if you want to step back)
However the midi track will not play anymore, it will be semi/hidden
You can also overdub audio tracks..

Also there will be a new sequencer format for the pattern sequencer inherited from the Motif
Although, also this new pattern sequencer will support audio loops
You can directly record the pattern sequencer into the normal song recorder..
But also copy to style tracks

There is also a new style format supporting both midi as well as audio..
but the arranger also plays the old styles..
The new style player is much more dynamic
Reacting to the player..

Also there will be a Chord track, and a chord loop...
The chord track plays overall and couples arranger parts to the sequencer
So your arranger follows the sequencer
A chord loop is coupled to a variation...

Also the touchscreen adds a huge amount of direct controll options for styles...
Much like we have seen Ketron do

And last but not least, something i guessed right before..
The 4 keyboard parts will consist out of 4 awm2 parts (and each part is 8 elements)
Combined with up to 3 split points
So the ensemble voices will just be 1 part
As well as the 4 awm part piano from the montage

Different from the montage, each sound will have 1 effect (montage =2)
But the 4 keyboard parts will have 4 additional effects which can be assigned to a single up to 4 parts
Drum parts will have 8 effects.. but only 2 midi drum tracks can be played live .. at the same time
Drums support round

way to much for me to handle

Hi All,

Just watched the 2nd advert for the new Yamaha Keyboard and just completely failed to see the relevance of this advert in the launch of a new Keyboard ?

Brian. When actually watching this on YouTube it's interesting to read some of the comments ...

If all these orchestral voices are also sampled in Genos, it will be simply an Ultra Beast! Can't wait ;)

I would really like to know what the Yamaha Genos really did, here. It 's a very very confusing situation for future Genos buyers...
It's very easy to request a big orchestra to play, and then tell you that a keyboard participates to this ....
Misleading advertising ????
Otherwise, the overall result is very good. Bravo Alex Christensen, bravo the orchestra.
No bravo for Yamaha.

I too find this product plug very disturbing. That has nothing to do with a workstation advertisement. Got me nowhere.

Hi Hugh,

My own personal perception is, it could be such a big move forward from the Tyros format of an arranger keyboard
that it may just put a few people off, but until we get the full spec and a little more info it's all smoke and mirrors at the moment

Apparently there a big release party for main dealers in Germany today I think

Well the Teasers have done their job and got people talking about Genos. The last teaser will probably reveal all. I do suspect that a lot of the voices we have heard have been sampled from the orchestra and also the style. This is going to be one great keyboard and should suit all.

We seem to have heard a lot of samples from orchestras. André Rieu, the Berlin Orchestra. The last thing I want to hear from a keyboard or organ is a 'live orchestra'. It's those songs from the 50s and 60s that I like to play. They had guitars and bass guitars in their bands, and not a single violin to be seen. And then there's the organ sounds. Hammond organ variations .. and not a single violin to be seen. And then I like the 'weirdy' sounds with a bit of wha-wha on them. And not a single violin to be seen.

We'll see what else they come up with.

Hi Hugh,

If the Genos is anything like the previous Tyros keyboards each new one had a section called Legacy which contains all the previous voices from the previous models.
The Tyros models already have some great voices from the categories you mentioned but you're right all the stuff that's been released about the new Genos is geared
toward orchestras ? perhaps it's the advertising gurus way of tying to say how realistic the voices are compared to the real thing and just what can be achieved.
Until we get a few more details and realistic live demos done by their demonstrators we are still in the dark really

Apparently someone in Brussels has ordered a Genos and the price was 4,500 Euros
which equates to just under £4,000 pounds . This is not fact but like everything else at the moment, speculation

So get those piggy banks out

Here in the UK the price depends on if you have the speakers and stand. If you just have the Keyboard and speakers it is around £4600 but shops are giving good PX deals at the moment. It pays to shop around.
