Hi ALL,

The "What are you listening to Now ? (4)" thread is starting to load slowly now as there are a lot of posts on it so time for this new one

What better to start a new thread of with than a new Genre of music that started in 1977 DISCO and the film that kicked it all off was Saturday Night Fever
so as we are all supposed to be indoors and may need some exercise this is just the video to get us up and moving about, but watch you dont put somebody's eye out

Hi ALL,

A bit more nostalgia from 1965

"My Girl" is a soul music song recorded by the Temptations for the Gordy (Motown) record label. Written and produced by the Miracles members Smokey Robinson & Ronald White, the song became the Temptations' first U.S. number-one , and is today their signature song. Robinson's inspiration for writing this song was his wife,

Hi ALL,

Back to the sixties "Here Comes the Night" is a 1964 song, written by Bert Berns. It became a hit for Northern Irish band Them, fronted by Van Morrison, in March 1965, charting at No. 2 in the UK and No. 24 in the US, Note the use of tremolo on the guitar as this was widely used before the advent of small portable echo chambers,

Hi ALL,

The Dave Clarke Five, probably best known for their foot stomping numbers like Glad All Over and Bits and Pieces , but this a ballad they recorded titled Because
I really like the chord progression in this tune so very much like some of the Buddy Holly tunes

Something a little different today, the making of a classic song "I am not in Love " by 10CC

Please note that after the 8.00min mark the video just goes to black screen but the song keeps playing right to the end

I find this a real eyeopener as to how a lot of the music we listened to in the 60s was actually recorded

Hi Mike,

Pleased you enjoyed it, trying to find some more interesting stuff about studio musicians as I find it very interesting that a small band of musicians were used in a lot of the great tunes from the sixties

Hi Brian,

That was so interesting! I had never heard of 'studio musicians' before, so that was a real eye-opener. I thought all those 60s 'artistes' had their own groups who backed them. Like Elvis and Cliff.

Hi Hugh,

Yes each studio used to use the same musicians if they could and from what I have seen there may not have been as much good music about if it wasn't for them,
the most popular set of studio musicians were nicknamed the Wrecking Crew and there have been some very interesting TV documentary's about them. I will see what else I can dig up

Hi Brian and Hugh in my opinion Glen Campbell was a SUPBERB Session Musician for a period playing with several others on Hundreds or Thousands of Hit records. They were known as the Wrecking Crew, playing on hits for Sinatra, Elvis, Beach Boys, Righteous Bros, Bobby Darrin and too many others to mention Best Regards mikeG.

Hi Mike,

Glenn Campbell was a fantastic guitarist as well as being a good singer and had many hits in his own right and as you said played on lots more,

Here is a clip If found on Youtube which sheds some light onto Phil Spectors wall of sound recording technique ,

A bit of local talent on this one, Neil Francis Tennant was born in North Shields, a fishing port near Newcastle upon Tyne and Christopher Sean Lowe from Blackpool, collectively known as the Pet Shop Boys

Hi Brian,

I have always liked this one. Surprise, surprise? I am not into either Theatre Organ or Classical music, but like things with a good beat .. which this one has. Thanks for posting it.

No doubt you will tell me that you have a 'bespoke', setup on your PSR-SX700 for you to play this? Although my AR80 is over 20 years old, here is this song played on an AR80. Not by me, but another Member of AR Group called Simon Fuller.

Click on the LINK below, then click the back-button after you have listened to get back to this page.
It's A Sin

Having listened to this, can anyone say the AR has had it's day?

Hi Hugh,

Totally blown away by the instrumental version of Its a Sin and to be honest I think I would struggle to come anywhere near to that with my SX700
the sound and arrangement are spot on and full credit to the guy that did arrange/record and play it.

Muscle Shoals Sound Studio at 3614 Jackson Highway in Sheffield, Alabama was formed in 1969 by four session musicians called The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and

Wilson Pickett, Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Cocker, Levon Helm, Paul Simon, Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, Tamiko Jones, and Cat Stevens.

Brian,

Now here's another surprise! I haven't heard this one before. More of the type of music I like to listen to. I just love that beat and the voicing. You would have thought that at the age of 77 I would I would prefer Bing Crosby or Victor Sylvester. I think it goes back to playing in a dance band.

for all the Organ players I am sure there is a Hammond B3 being played in there somewhere ?
