I suppose that's one way of getting a 'slide'. Just alter the tuning of your strings!

Yes, both masters of their instrument.
Jack Bruce was a trained cellist and that is why he could do what he did on the Fretless bass. My Fretless bass playing was strained to say the least and now that my hands are shot, it has been lingering in its case.
