Wonderful World Of Christmas

I did not know this song when I found it on p61 of The Christmas Bumper Book For Buskers. The musical guidance is "moderately slow" and i tried to respond to the words by giving it a bit of a joyful bounce. This morning I discovered the version sung by Elvis. He did have the decency, or not, to claim the song for himself and not Tobias & Frisch who wrote the song four years earlier in 1968.

The wonderful world of Christmas
Is a wonderful world to behold
The wonderful world of Christmas
Was made for the young and the old
Smile and good cheer of each neighbor
And children with cheeks all aglow
So, warm is this Christmassy feeling
With the tree tops all locked up with snow
Listen to those wondrous bells
And you'll hear them say
Open up your hearts to all on this holyday
The wonderful world of Christmas
Is a joy from the moment it starts
The wonderful world of Christmas
Shall remain everyday in our hearts
(Open up your hearts to all, to the wonderful world of Christmas)

Hi Keith. You are still going well with your posts. Nice tune but some never seem to make it as a hit. Enjoyed my listen. John

I don't know that tune but a nice performance
Elvis's management always(or usually) insisted that he should receive a share of the writing royalties otherwise he wouldn't record the song.
From the writers point of view, have a loaf is better than no bread at all.
I remember Dolly Parton saying that she was delighted Elvis wanted to record one of her songs until she heard he was to receive credit
for her work. He did not record the song as Dolly was not prepared to do that.
She must be one of the few and good on her.
Brian
(edit) I have just found this on the internet, Dolly talking about it.
The song was "I Will Always Love You"

Fascinating information Brian. Elvis drops in my estimation.
