Band night 20/10

Postby JohnT » 21 Oct 2014 12:01

Hi all Just an update on the evening. There were 14 members present and six brought keyboards. 2 x Korg 2x Technics and 2xYamaha. Thanks to those who attended and brought keyboards and to Harry for leading the group. We played a varied selection and a few I give below.
Quickstep. Mountain Greenery, somebody loves me,Just one of those things.
Waltz. Alice blue gown, Around the world, Let bygones be by gones. Paradise.
Quickstep. This can't be love, Lady is a tramp, Happy Talk.
Slow rock. Morgens Um Sieben
Waltz Ramona, Sally, Charmaine.
Bossa See you in my dreams, Dreams, Dream a little dream of me.
Quickstep. You're dancing with my heart. Say it with music, somebody stole my girl and Here's to the next time.
Ragtime Alexander's ragtime band, Ragtime Cowboy Joe, Darktown Strutters Ball
There were many more medleys and the night lasted nearly three hours. We seemed to have improved as we all seemed to finish at the same time not always on the right note.It was a most enjoyable night.
The next night is Monday 3rd November and the theme is Classical/Light music so hope to see you all there. John

A very enjoyable evening. Thanks to John and Harry for their input. Sight reading some of the pieces that were going at a good lick was very much a challenge. I wonder if it would possible to say which music will be used for the next band night so that we can have a practice beforehand?

That`s a very good Idea a sort of " A SET LIST "
all of which would need to come from the clubs music books

A mixture of genre`s and levels of skill and ability, this could possibly take pressure of
the more talented players in the club to give there time

It may appeal to the less talented players " like me "

Put it to " THE COMMITTEE " Keith and see what they say

Hi Brian and Keith. Thank you for your replies and comments. Will have to have a word with the rest of the members. The use of the books has come up in the past we only seem to play from books 3 and 4 as the other two are a bit difficult to read.. The break at half time was supposed to be used by members to get advice from the more experienced players. We will have to revisit the issues you have raised at our next evening on the 3rd November.
Thanks for taking an interest in the club and looking forward to see you at the above date. John

Wotcha folks,

I have been having a clear out down here and I have got a fair bit of music that I'm never going to use - if someone wants to PM me an address I'll send it up for the benefit of your members ... probably 2 or 3 hundred titles in a mixture of individual sheets and albums ...

It may as well get some use rather than gathering dust at my place :D

All the best ...
