Theme - Music from 1960`s Films

Postby Brian007 » 13 Apr 2016 07:53

Morning all,

This new challenge is all about music that was used in films in the 1960s, the music can be the theme tune to the film or just in the film or even a Musical Film and of any genre, there are loads to choose from, please state which film your post is from and if you know the year all the better.

I have started off with a tune that shares it`s title with the name of the film, The Young Ones which starred Cliff Richard and the Shadows and was released in 1961.

Style used was 60s GuitarPop2 https://app.box.com/s/r0zvomq2129rb02e19vu4cbg1oa5voq6

Hi Brian, An excellent start to this challenge with your version of "The Young Ones" which was most enjoyable and brought back many memories.

I have had one of those days when nothing has gone right but have just managed to do a quick recording of "Born Free" from the 1966 film of the same name.

This one is from the 1967 film "The Graduate." It is "The Sound Of Silence." Must try to get better at turning pages when playing.

Hi Keith,

A nice version of that tune, with some good voices, and nicely played
page turning, can you not get a foot pedal for the pc to do that ? I am sure I have seen some somewhere ?

Hi Keith. Great minds think alike. Tried this one this morning but hadn't time to record it. Style was 8 beat and tried a ballad. No page turning on my book. A nice version with matching sounds. Enjoyed my listen. John

Hi Keith,
I usually bend the corners to get the pages turned but if it is a tune I want to play again, I normally scan and print the pages out and join them with sellotape.
A good performance nevertheless.

Hi Film buffs. This one from 1964. My fair lady. The song is On the street where you live. Played as a foxtrot. A little bit of dampness missed couple of chords, but tried it a few times but not much improvement over the five minutes. Tired out going for a lis down. Enjoy your listen. John

Hi John,

A good version of that tune, with some nice voices and a nice backing style, which you played well with good timekeeping
apart from the slight dampness you did very well.

Glad that you enjoyed "From Russia With Love." My next movie is the 1960 film "The Exodus." The special effects were amazing for the time. Who could forget the Red Sea parting and then closing in to drown the Egyptians? Anyway this piece is from the movie and is "The Exodus Song" and is Moses telling of God's promise to the Israelites.

Hi Keith,

Went to see Exodus with my parents in my very early teens but I was a little to young to take it all in I think,
your version is well played and voiced and did bring back a few memories if the film.

In 1968 the Winter Olympic Games were held in Grenoble and in the same year the film "13 Jours En France" was released telling the story of the event. This is the theme tune by Francis Lai and I do not think that I ever heard it, or of the film, before finding it in a book. My image to go with the music is a loan accordionist playing the tune by the banks of the Seine.

Hi Keith. Certainly had a French flavour with the accordion. Likewise never heard it before but your playing seemed to suit the music. A nice relaxing listen with a glass of wine in Paris had me in the mood. Where are the other members of the site I'm sure there are lots out there who could give it a go. John

Hi John, thanks for posting. If you listen to the piece from about 1.30 to 1.55 you will find that you loosened up and began to get the feel of it before tightening up again. Playing anything is a challenge but that is what makes it fun.
