New Challenge 1/4/16 Very romantic love songs.

Postby KRUG » 01 Apr 2016 08:04

Spring is most definitely in the air so now is the time for romantic love. Romantic love is the theme for this Challenge. I am looking for the tunes that drip in slushy, mushy declarations of love. Not the “I love You, Yeah, Yeah” type of song but the soft gentle songs that ooze passion. To get you in the mood I will start us off with “Softly, Softly.”

Not to worry John - we are all getting on a bit and even youngsters like Brian can probably remember this one -"Portrait of my Love." Thanks to both of you for your comments.

Hi Keith,

I can remember Matt Monro version of this song as he had such a great voice, an english Sinatra.
Anyway you did a very good version of that song, and you caught the feel of the tune very well.
well played and voiced.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well slushy love songs are not really my bag, but in the best spirit of the challenge heres my arrangement of "Let It Be Me" originally published in French in 1955
as "Je t'appartiens". It became popular worldwide with an English version by The Everly Brothers, I did tell the lads in the band to take it easy as its a Romantic song
but you had better judge for yourselves   https://app.box.com/s/99dmv3zq76c0aztcds8kgvf0ql3br270

What a load of rubbish Brian! Slushy love songs are clearly most definitely your bag and I am glad that music has helped you get in touch with your softer side. Lovely tune and very well played.

John. great to have two goo entries from you in such short order. Enjoyed them both but I think that the beguine had the edge over the waltz.

Anybody else out there please join in and have a go. If you are not sure how to make, or post a recording just ask and we will do our best to show you how.

Hi John T

A great couple of old favorites there, thoroughly enjoyed your re-worked versions of those tunes
a good choice of backing style and voices.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Keith,

Another great song from Matt Monro, he was truly a great singer, and your version
was really good, great voicing and well played.

Hi Keith,

Just listened to "the air that I breath" you made a very good job of that, and I can imagine its not that easy to play correctly or well
but you made a excellent job playing, and voicing it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heres my version/arrangement of Elvis Presley's Can`t help falling in Love , it topped the British charts in 1962, and has appeared in numerous films,
It was written by the songwriter George Weiss. This is my laid back version which may end up on my Easy listen CD    Hope you enjoy it

Thanks for the comments.
Brian, Really enjoyed your version of"Can't Help Falling In Love." I think that it is an improvement to slow the "Like a river flows" section down by doubling the number of bars. Well played on the trumpet.

It is Sunday again but this week I have decided to use theatre organ rather than classical organ for my first offering. A rather quiet organ with a bit of percussion for "Love Is A Song."

Hi Keith,

Not one I am familiar with , but a very nice melody line and a good organ voice and your playing all made for an enjoyable tune to listen to.

Thought you would notice the doubling of the bars in the chorus of I can`t help falling in love , just makes it a little different and more interesting

Morning to all our listeners,

"True Love" is a song written by Cole Porter and was published in 1956. The song was introduced by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly in the musical film High Society.

"True Love" is the name of a yacht on which two of the characters honeymoon in the play The Philadelphia Story, on which the musical is based.
Bing Crosby later owned a 55-foot Constellation yacht which he named the "True Love".

Hope you enjoy my somewhat short version of this song. https://app.box.com/s/tdwae52ywwfgcmy9d6jgje3iptb5qdpz

Hi Brian, An excellent version of "True Love." Liked the little slur on the clarinet - was that you or one of those funny buttons you get on fancy keyboards?

Nothing fancy about this one from the Platters - "Only You (And You Alone)."

Hi John T.

Thank you for your kind comments about my posting and my new photo :?: just thought it was time I updated it to reflect my charms and good looks

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Keith,

The slur can be achieved two way on the tyros, 1 using a button as you correctly stated, or as I do and that is to hold the first note for a fraction of a second after playing the second note, which is easier as it leaves your hands free.

Your posting of "Only You" caught the feel of the piece exactly, some good choices of voicing all made for a good enjoyable listening experience

Ee by gum Brian but you are a master of technology. I think that I am losing it. I have just recorded one song to find that I recorded it just over a month ago so recorded another one to find I recorded it preciously in November. Anyway this is the recording made this morning of "Let It Be Me."

I think that this next song must be one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. It is called "With You I'm Born Again" but I feel like renaming it "Trials and Tribulations." I have found it a very difficult piece to play and my recording lead has developed a fault but I think that this take is acceptable as it only has a little hiss in places. I hope that you enjoy it.

Hi Keith,

I wouldn't `bother to much about the doubling up on a tune, its bound to happen now and again.

"With You I'm Born Again" certainly is a beautiful piece of music and you did it justice as I enjoyed
listening to it very much.
