Hi John. good to have you taking part and with such a good posting. I remember the song well and you did it justice.

Plenty of time to do another John as I think that I will let this one run for a little while yet. There is plenty of good music from the 50's and certainly something to suit everyone.

"Fever" was written in 1956 by John Davenport and Eddie Cooley. Originally released by Little Willie John but more famously by Peggie Lee. This is very much my interpretation of the song.

I think that it would be 1968 when I bought an Artie Shaw LP and it is possible that this tune was on the record. Certainly when coming across it in the Real Book Of The Blues this morning it felt very familiar. It is what I think of as a nice burbling blues song. Written by Artie Shaw in 1950 it is "Nightmare."

Hi ALL,

This one is from 1954-55 as far as I can find out anyway, I can remember singing this as we played cowboys and indians after watching Davy Crockett on the telly
so heres my quick version of "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" https://app.box.com/s/5eknmk1jrrrqfejbtxbb25nrojl1ar72

The style was Country8Beat @136pbm nothing else no multi-tracking just a straight recording.

Hi Brian and John. Two excellent postings. Jumbalaya was great - timing was perfect to my ears and particularly liked the vocal section. Was that a racoons tail hanging down the back of your hat Brian. Brought back nice memories of "The king of the wild frontier." That'll be up Waldridge way I think! Well played and arranged.

Thanks to John and Brian for their kind comments.

This next tune is from the excellent book "100 of the Best Songs Ever" and although you may not recognise the title -"Chances Are" the chances are that you will recognise the tune. Written in 1957 by Robert Allen with words by Al Stillman it was notably performed by Johnny Matthis.

Hi all on a rather damp dreary Easter Monday,

This next tune was recorded and part written in 1958 by Neil Sedaka, whose musical career had not been successful to date so, Determined to create a hit song,
Sedaka purchased the three top singles of the day and listened to them repeatedly, studying their melody, chord progression, and lyrical styles; and he found that
they were very similar in structure. He then used this knowledge to create the song, "Oh Carol".

Sedaka had dated Carole King when he was still at high school, and she was still called Carol Klein, so he used her name, Gerry Goffin - King's husband - took the tune,
and wrote the playful response "Oh! Neil", which King recorded and released as an unsuccessful single the same year (1958.

So here's my version of Oh Carol, using 60s Vintagepop style @132 bpm

Oh Brian, thought that I was listening to the real thing - the style seemed to be from the original recording. The guitar twanged perfectly so well done and thanks for the background information.

"Heartaches By The Number" was written in 1959 by Harlan Howard. The biggest hit version was by Guy Mitchell in 1959 but was recorded by many others in later years.

Hi Everyone Recorded this one thought it was appropriate for the weather. On first research it was doe in 1952 for Gene Kelly. However looked again and it was said to be written in 1928/9. However done it now so apologize for error. Singin' in the rain. John

well played and put together.

Hi Again,

One more from me, I have decided as its Easter to step outside my comfort zone of popular music and try something a little different,
Its still pop but in a Big Band style (Quickstep @200bpm ) and lasts all of 90 seconds but I did enjoy my little trip outside my comfort zone
so hope you enjoy "Mr. Sandman" written by Pat Ballard which was published in 1954 first recorded in May of that year by Vaughn Monroe & His Orchestra

Hi Brian, Glad to hear that your twangy guitar has a broken string so you had to widen your horizons! A very jaunty and well played version of "Mr Sandman" which I hope is the first of many from outside what used to be your comfort zone. By heck, lad, you'll be playing hymns next.

Hi John, A good attempt at "Singing in the rain" which apart from a couple of timing issues worked well and had some nice sounds.

If any of the people lurking on the board are intending posting for this challenge please do so before Thursday evening as I will set a new challenge on Friday morning.

Hi All,

The last one from me this challenge, I have always thought you can never go far wrong with an Elvis Presley number so here we go, "The Wonder of You"
is a song that was written by Baker Knight. In 1959,and probably remembered for Elvis Presley recording a live version of "The Wonder of You" in February 1970.
Played using a Classic8Beat @103 Bpm

Hi Everyone Thought i would give the challenge section a helping hand quickly did this one. Seems it was done in 1958 by someone called Max Bygraves. Did it with a Midnight swing and Band sounds. YOU NEED HANDS. Apparently Bernard Bresslaw did You need feet but have not heard it. John

Hi Brian, an excellent rendition of "The Wonder of You." Particularly impressed with the opening piano section.

Hi John, My but your Tuesday afternoon sessions are paying dividends if "You Need Hands" is anything to go by. Perfect timing, beautifully played and arranged - "Oyl give it foyv" as that Brummy lass used to say on Juke Box Jury.
