Music from Films

Postby Brian007 » 25 Feb 2016 11:04

Hi Challengers,

This new challenge is all about music from Films, any music that has been used in a Film that has been shown in cinemas as opposed to just on TV.
It need not be the theme tune, and it's about the music not the artists so if there is more than one version of the music by different artists you choose
which arrangement version you want to play. But please lets try and keep it fresh, no back catalogue stuff you have done previously.
There is a wealth of different genre to choose from, Marches, Ballads, Waltzes, etc. have all be used it films so plenty to go at.
Please also state the film your music is from as this helps identify the tune and the film.

My first post in this new challenge is from a film called Kill Bill Volume 1 which was released in 2003. and the music was written by
Bennie Benjamin and Gloria Caldwell called "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" the version I have done was recorded by a local band
called The Animals, so hope you enjoy my version . https://app.box.com/s/t9othcqpclecojkiovw86ewefx3p2l3f

Well played Brian. Had no idea that it was used in a film.

My offering is from the film Hair but has also been used in one of The Simpsons films and the film of a Burger King advert. The tune is "Good Morning Starshine."

A good choice of tune, well played in a more relaxed style than is usual for this tune, it worked well.

Hi Keith,

You live and learn never knew that was used in the Simpson and a TV Advert ?
You made a good job of it, nice voicing and I did enjoy listening to your version of it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Brian D.

A nice version of that film theme, which you played well and with some good strong voices
and plenty of bounce.

The tempo given for the next tune is andante or walking speed. On reflection I think a little faster would be better. It was first used in the 1931 film The Birthday party and was sung as a duet between Micky and Minnie Mouse. It has been used in at least ten other films including The Green Mile and Aviator. The song is "I Can't Give You Anything But Love."

"Pennies from Heaven" is both the title of this next song and the 1936 film in which it first appeared. Since then it has been used in many films including Corrina, Corrina, Elf, Igor and most recently The Artist.

Hi Keith,

We have been busy,

"I Can't Give You Anything But Love." a well played and voiced number which I enjoyed.

"What Kind Of Fool Am I" Some real nice voices you used in that tune which you played well.

"Pennies from Heaven" another well played and arranged number which I enjoyed.

I am experiencing some problems with my right shoulder and neck muscles so taking a couple of days off from the keyboard to see if it helps reduce the pain a little,
but will be back a.s.a.p. I hope

Hi Guys,
I have just listened to Keith's last three songs, all well played and enjoyable but before I listened, I recorded a song. it was the first music book
I picked up, Kenneth Baker Book seven page 12. It is all 4 note block chords in the melody. It seems a pity not to post it but I hope Keith doesn't mind, It is
Pennies From Heaven.

Here is a short improvisation on the slow movement in Bruch's violin concerto. Dont be put off by it being classical. Was in the 1986 film Duet for 1 Ken

Hi Brian D.

I did enjoy your version of " Tristesse " Etude no 3 Opus 10 nice to watch you playing it as well.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For my offering, Heres my version /interpretation of "Theme from A Summer Place", composed by Max Steiner,

A Summer Place is a 1959 romantic drama film based on Sloan Wilson's 1958 novel of the same name, about teenage lovers from different social classes who get back together twenty years later, and then must deal with the passionate love affair of their own teenage children by previous marriages.

Enjoyed all the latest efforts from John, remember queuing to see that film with my Dad, Brian007, glad the shoulder is moving well enough for Hank to get in on the act, Kens for reminding me of Bruch's concerto playing before assemblies back in 1969 and Papadeedee for that piece by Chopin - rare composer on here.

Here is one for Sunday. Played on classical organ it is from the Disney animated film "An American Tail" with the music by a collaboration lead by James Horner. It is called "Somewhere Out There."

Hi Brian, your last two offerings were very nice. I listened to Yesterday twice. :D :D
Keith, two nicely played tunes, the classical organ sounds great. :D :D
Ken, A very nice performance of the Bach Air. :D :D

Loads of films that used "Fur Elise" tune.
A small sample- Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) The Butcher Boy (1997) Death In Venice (1971) Elephant (2003)

Because this tune is played by concert pianists etc, I just want to mention that it is no where near real performance standard, I would need to spend a lot
of time practising it and I don 't want to do that. There is a section consisting of demi- semi- quavers, I would have to spend a lot more time to get that up to full speed.
