Hi all, a little story behind this one.

When I was just 16 and just starting out in a band we once entered a talent competition 1st prize £50.00 . any way we came 3rd and got £10.00 but the winner did this song and Its stuck in my mind ever since then, and I wish I had a penny for every time I heard it sung in a working mens club so heres my version of My way

Two excellent recordings. Loved the brass arrangement Ken and Brian is fast becoming the master of multi tracking with a well put together version of my way.

My offering in comparison is a bit of a mish mash. I searched my digital music file for the word my and one of the first pieces to come up was "Georgia on my mind." I decided to play it in a way to reflect my rather somber mood using harmonica and oboe leads. When I came to save it I discovered that I had already recorded it some months ago using theatre organ. After listening I discovered that that was from music with an extra section to the tune. What I have done is join the two pieces together so you start with the more cheerful theatre and end with the more contemplative harmonica/oboe version. I hope that you like the contrast.

Thanks for the comments gents. I agree with you John.

I am not sure if Brian will know this one from the folk tradition but others may. Written by John Hartford it is "Gentle On My Mind."

Elvis performed many excellent songs but in my opinion three of them were outstandingly beautiful and this morning I shall play you one of them. It tells the sad story opf a father sitting on the bed of his sleeping young son and trying to explain to him that his parents' " love has finally died" and that they are to part. It is Sunday and I have chosen to play this melancholy tune as though it is being used as a postlude to fill the time as the congregation file out of church. It is simply "My Boy."

A very nice version of Abide With Me, with some good strong voices, well played.

Hi Keith,

Not one of Elvis Presley`s I am familiar with, but the voice you choose was a very authentic church organ
and it made the tune for me. Well played and voiced

Hi John. A nice simple version of that old tune. The fact that a piece is in 3/4 time does not mean that it is a dance, simply that there are three crotchets to the bar. I think that a waltz would be inappropriate for that piece of music so a pat on the back from me!

Looking for songs with the word "My" in the title I came upon this one. To my knowledge I have never heard it before but it is a nice little tune with all the sentiments of a Mother's Day card. It is from the 1929 film Lucky Boy and I have given it a swingy jazz combo arrangement. I Hope that you enjoy "My Mother's Eyes."

Hi Keith,

"My Mother's Eyes" I get the feeling I have heard this before somewhere, not sure but it has a real nice
melody line and you used so imaginative voices which all made for an interesting and pleasurable listen.

Brian007

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the theme is to own or control I think this one by Abba fits the bill, its called "I have a dream"
which when you think about it only you can own a dream.. Hope you enjoy this instrumental version
All done on the Tyros no mult-track just a straight country 8beat style and built in voices

Hi!

In the good old music hall days they always included a song which would bring tears to the eyes of the audience.
This was a favorite. I have tried to capture the atmosphere. " I Love You Dearly."

"Songs My Mother Taught Me." is not one I m familiar with, but again an easy to listen to tune.

Thought that I would look at British folk music today so we are off to Ireland for the next one. It is a children's song from, and partly in the Gaelic. It has just occurred to me that if you only play by ear you are stuck when it comes to exploring new horizons. This one is "I Wish I Had the Shepherds Lamb."
