Hi John T.

That was a real nice version of that song, with those lush strings and the piano all made for a pleasant easy listen.

Hi Brian, enjoyed leaving on a jet plane which had some lovely sounds.

Hi John, A good version of Strolling - particularly liked the electric piano section towards the end.

I am going to the good old USA for the next one. A folk song that tell of "Engine 143" which must have been the fastest engine of its time and the train known as the Fast Flying Virginian running on the Chesapeake and Ohio line between Washington D.C. and Cincinanati, Ohio.

Hi Keith,

A nice one which you played and voiced very well, never heard it before but sounded good.

Here`s one written by Carol King and its all about a dance called The Locomotion https://app.box.com/s/ridcd2bcen221ih4ww3afsbooz95g2a2

Hi Brian, remember doing the Locomotion as a teenager - Little Eva if I remember correctly. Still sounding good with your twangy guitar and Hammond sounds.
Hi Kens, As you say a bit early, or late for Christmas but sounded good and fit the criteria.

I am sticking in the USA for the time being and still travelling the railroad with "Freight Train." Performed by loads of people but perhaps most notably be Peter, Paul and Mary.

Good morning Mr Railroadman,
What time do your trains roll by,
At nine sixteen and two forty four,
And twenty five minutes till five.

The song goes on to tell of a man and his unfaithful lover and escaping to a new life by train. Sing along to "Good morning, Mr. Railroadman."

Hi John, a good attempt at Daisy but I think that you could find a better style.

Hi Ken, Typical of you to keep the more classical side of things going and you did it well.

Just as typical is my next song from the USA "Midnight Special". A big hit for Creedence Clearwater Revival the song acquired connotations of drug use but this is a traditional song originally made famous by Leadbelly and I quote:

"According to folk music historian Alan Lomax as documented in the book Folk Song USA, the Midnight Special was a real train: the Southern Pacific Golden Gate Limited. A traditional folk song, Leadbelly popularized it upon his release from Sugar Land prison in Texas, where he could hear the Midnight Special come through. In the song, the light of the train gives the inmates hope - if it shines on them they take it as a sign they will soon go free."

After my travels on the old railway lines of the USA it is back to Shanks' pony for the next one. It is my interpretation of the Spencer Davis hit of the 60's - "Keep on Running."

Thanks for the comments folks. I am back to the USA for this one. It is called "New River Train" and the words suggest that it is American folk rather than Negro Spiritual in origin. The best rhythm I could find was a polka with a bit of a steam train feel until the end when it sounds more like a disintegrating cuckoo clock. Using organ sounds it is all a bit of a fusion of genres but I hope that you like it.

This is a rather raucous song in my opinion. Just right for singing on a bus trip coming back from a rugby match so I have made it even worse by giving it the Blackpool treatment. Certainly fits the bill - Yellow Submarine.

As a total contrast to my last offering her is one from Chris de Burgh. Although this is often associated with Christmas Major Peake's antics up in the International Space Station make this an appropriate time to play it. I have thrown away the rhythm box and had fun with the touch sensitivity etc. to try to give this an ethereal spacey sound. It sounds good to me in headphones. The opening words are, "A spaceman came travelling in his ship from afar ....,"

I hope that you enjoy "A Spaceman Came Travelling."
