Hi Kens and Brian. Enjoyed listening to your contributions but surprised Brian is getting stuck, I have just received an ebay music purchase - The Folksong Fake Book. Over a 1000 songs on over 500 A4 pages. I opened the book and what was the song facing me? Rather fortuitously it was "Peace Like a River" so here we go everybody join in and sing "I've got peace like a river in my soul."

Hi. Ken. Seemed a complex piece to play. Liked my listen a complete change. John

Hi Brian. Strings fixed it suited the music plus the orchestra strings. A nice listen. John

Hi Keith. Not one I know so couldn't join in with the singing. Managed to tap my feet. A different easy listen. John

Hi Keith,

Not stuck for choice stuck for music :|

Anyway "Peace Like a River" I could imagine singing along to that after 4 or 5 pints a catchy melody line and liked the organ voice

Rest in peace Rolly we missed you playing the harmonica. Did anyone see the space station had an excellent view from my front window for about three minutes at 7.28am. Any how back to music another childrens piece. Here goes with Lightly row. John

Brian - Enjoyed your version of Sloop John B, well played and appropriate voices.
John - nice to hear another song from the folk tradition and particularly enjoyed the strings.
Kens - you have totally defeated my memory banks as I am sure that I have never heard "I've Told Every Little Star" but is sounded fine.

This is another song from my new book. The title "Bendemeer's Stream" meant nothing to me but as soon as I began playing it it had a familiar sound. Pictures of Riverdance came to mind. Try moving your feet to this one which is attributed to Thomas Moore.

Well spotted Brian. The rhythm/style was an oberkrautzer waltz or something so I took the oompah band out of the accompaniment and replaced it with an accordion.

We are off to America for the next one. It is a song from the civil war entitled, "All Quiet Along The Potomac Tonight" and the words are a soldiers complaint that by official standards it is all quiet apart from the occasional sniper fire but that does not matter because it is only the common soldier who will get shot and he is unimportant and would not make the news.

I remember singing this one with the kids many years ago. A simple song where each singer can take it in turn to sing/make up a verse. Have ago. The first verse is:

You get a line and I'll get a pole, honey.
You get a line and I'll get a pole, honey.
You get a line and I'll get a pole and we'll go down to the crawdad hole,
Honey, sugar, baby mine

Hi Keith Well you have been busy. Both had a nice country feel. Liked the harmonica and I see you have pinched one of Brian's guitars. Had my feet tapping and seemed nice simple melody. May do another although I have just done one on the other challenge. Enjoyed them very pleasant. John

Hi Brian
Hope this response to your challenge is not too late. It is a traditional Irish song, recorded on the Tyros 5 using the Irish Hymn 2 style.

Hi Keith,

Some real warm sounds you used on "All Quiet Along The Potomac Tonight" a good reformance.

"We`ll go down the crawdad hole" was an interest little ditty to say the least, never heard it
before. Well played and voiced.

I have never heard "I've Told Every Little Star" before,
but you played it very well with some good voicing, nice to listen to.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"For the Good Times" was a very easy tune to listen to and you played it very well
and I did enjoy listening to it very much.

Back to the USA and a song from the 19thC. "Hudson River Steamboat is a jaunty little song telling of the life on board a Hudson River steamboat as it plies its trade from New York to Albany.

Hi Kens, Nice to hear a bit of "Sunday" music and leading me to lie down by still waters fits the bill nicely. What a breadth of music we get in the Challenge!

Yesterday I took you up the Hudson which joins up with the Erie Canal. The song Erie Canal is, I believe, a mix of old tunes but tells of a terrible storm which must have been bad because it kept the crew away from the gin until they got to Buffalo.

Ken. Enjoyed your King of love, remembered it from my choir boy days. Almost new all the words. Nice organ. You seemed to enjoy playing it. John

Keith. We are getting around the globe, and getting lots of information. Good sounds and style. Pleasant listen. John
