New Challenge - Water

Postby Brian007 » 11 Jan 2016 08:48

Hi All,

This challenge is all about something some of us have had too much of lately WATER So any music that has references to WATER in it.
As an example music about, Rivers, lakes, sea, floods, activities or sports you can do in or on water. Anything you can do with water in the tune.

Here`s my version of one that was sung by Rod Stewart called Sailing https://app.box.com/s/25k12jo5qjeizc5aafcti03mrxc578f2

Two very good entries to get us going from Brian and Kens.

This one certainly fits the bill. A Johnny Cash song it is "Cool Water."

Brian, Ken and Keith,
all good performances, I especially liked Kieth's because I have never heard that tune before but as I said, they were all good performances.
I am being lazy, I have revived this one from my archives.
Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks, recorded on my small Samsung camera and played on the Orla Ringway.

Hi Brian, enjoyed Moon River and the excellent voicing.
Hi Papadeedee, It was interesting to hear the Ringway - do you still have it or did you trade it in for your other organ? Waterloo Sunset brought back many memories.

For this mornings offering I give you "Beyond The Sea."

Hi! Keith.
I did not recognise Beyond the Sea but thought it good Thanks

Here is a song from Verdi's opera Nabusco. Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves. Do not be put of by a bit of classical. You will probably recognise it. It mentions the river Jordan.

Hi folks I enjoyed my morning listen before looking to see what I could find for today.
Kens choice of the "Hebrew Slaves" was beautifully different. Just goes to show what a broad theme can throw up.
Why John should call My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean a nursery thyme I am not sure. An old English folk song for sure that has lasted far longer than most music ever will. You play a nice trumpet John.
Brian is getting hooked on his Hammondy sounds which went very well with a well played "Ferry Across The Mersey.

Hi Brian. Guitar strings broken? Sent the ferry out for Bonnie. Enjoyed my listen a good choice. John

Hi Keith. What a different choice a lovely piece. Sounds suited the music. Enjoyed it. When I looked at my choices it mainly said songs for children. Never mind. John

Hi Ken. You are welcome to play my Bonnies. Never heard brideshead, but what a pleasant tune and lovely sounds and style to match. It's a pity other members of the site don't join in. There are some great and different pieces of music that perhaps you would never play on the other challenge section. Thanks for your reply on the lounge section, you will see comments from members. Enjoyed my listen. John

Hi Brian, Brideshead rang no bells with me. I certainly did not watch the TV series. John enjoyed Deep River so much that he played us a spiritual in the form of Michael Row The Boat Ashore but did it in a modern style. I have gone back to the spirituals for that beautiful song stolen and corrupted by rugby union supporters. "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" with the reference - I looked over Jordan.

Hi John and Keith. Those 2 songs frequently are requested at our Thursday morning singing for the brain sessions and always give the group an uplift. My wife has a progressive brain disorder along with many other people and the rowing action is stimulating. So thanks for submitting those. regards Ken

The first line of Bette Midlers song THE ROSE reads" Some say love it is a river". So thought I would have a go. Hope you like it. I think its a lovely song and my efforts do not do it justice.
