New challenge - Tunes starting with the letter A

Postby Brian007 » 06 Oct 2015 11:53

Hi everyone,

Its time for a new challenge, and this time its any song/tune that starts with the letter A . This can be an A on its own or part of the first word of the songs title
example " A Boy Named sue" or "Act like a Man". No list this time there's plenty out there with a wide genre to suit all tastes, so enjoy.

As typical I will start it off with this one from the Beatles called "Act Naturally" as sung by Ringo

Hi Brian, What can I say but "YeeHa" and slap my thighs. A good start from you which will hopefully be followed by lots of fresh recordings from others.

A definite change of tempo with this one. I have played this before but today the title just made me think of the Mona Lisa and her enigmatic smile so I have tried to give "A Certain Smile" that ethereal enigmatic quality.

Hi Challengers Thought I would give this one an airing. After all these years. Not sur if it suites the foxtrot style or whether it is too fast. Atleast its a post. Hope you like it. John

Hi John T.

Never heard the tune before but I certainly enjoyed it. You used some real nice smooth voices which all made for a great performance.

Hi John, Have never heard that tune before but I see that I have it in one of the Buskers books. You are like a good wine - not as good in the first few bars but get better and better as the song progresses. You have stimulated me to find the music.

"All Or Nothing At All" this is not a song I know at all, but you made a good job of it and with a catchy little ending also

Ok Pop Pickers,

Here`s and obscure one for you,
"As Tears Go By" is a song written by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Rolling Stones' manager Andrew Loog Oldham.
It was released as a single by Marianne Faithfull in 1964 and peaked at 9 in the United Kingdom.

There`s no real ending to this in the music so just faded it out

Have just listened to some good music and asd Brian says "You can't go wrong with the Beatles." And I Love Her was always a favourite of mine and John did it justice. Brian switched over to the dark side for a Mick Jagger number which was very well done and brought back those happy days of the 60's.

Hi Kens, difficult question to answer honestly. I thought that the volume seemed to wobble rather alarmingly but not exactly distortion in the general sense. However, it did not add to the enjoyment of the piece.

Thought that I would join Ken and give you a bit of classical music. This is Ave Maria based on Bach's prelude No 1 in C Major.

Hi Keith,
A very spiritual rendition of that tune, very nice.
As you say, the tune is based on Bach's C major prelude. I love playing that prelude on the piano experimenting with the dynamics.
Here is the prelude played on the piano with Ave Maria added on top. I had no bother with the piano piece but found it tricky to phrase Ave Maria over it.

I liked Bach's Ave Maria. Here is another Ave Maria. It would appear the old composers all did a version of it. Mine is Schuberts on the EL700 organ.

Hi All,

Struggling a little with the A `s but here goes,
totally off the cuff read the music once and recorded it first attempt, no multi-tracking, or special styles, everything you hear is me, even the off the cuff instrumental in the middle totally ad-lib

so please enjoy "Another Brick in the Wall"

Hi BrianD. I liked the video and performance. You must be up there with Dylan and Donovan. I think you should put another certificate on the wall for Well performed. It's a pity other members are not listening to the challenge section they are missing some great performances and different music. John

Not sure but I think I have posted this tune before, if so, here it is again. I should be playing it faster but I tried it several times and kept messing it up so I have slowed it down. Even at the slower speed, I still managed to cock it up . (It is a piano arrangement but I played the left hand part on the bass pedals and the music calls for a low Bb but C is my deepest pedal and so had to transpose the music as I was playing, it threw me off quite a bit)
"All Shook Up" in more ways than one.
