New Theme - Girls Names

Postby Brian007 » 21 Aug 2015 11:07

I thinks its time we had a new challenge to liven things up a little
so hows about folks lets see how many people can post a song in this challenge.

To offer the widest choice of music genre`s the challenge is to post a tune with a girls name in it here`s a link to a site with all the songs with a girls name in them

http://www.songfacts.com/category-songs ... _title.php

So lets give it a try,

Ok to start things off here`s my tune for the challenge, its called DIANA by Paul Anka.

This has been a labour of love for me, I like the song but found it really hard to play on the keyboard
I had issues with switching registration in time for the tune and choosing a suitable voice plus getting the chorus right

but here it is anyway and only a couple of duff notes

Nice to have a new challenge so will have a look in my books. Diana sounded great, just like the original without Paul Anka.

This is a bit of a look back to the folk scene of the 60's and 70's and also a sort of tribute to Cilla Black whose funeral was yesterday. I guess that at some time she must have sung Liverpool Lou.

Hi Keith,

Surprising the number of songs with girls names in the title, must be honest this one didn't spring to mind, you used some good voices which were really appropriate for the song and you played it well , a pleasant listen. Brian007 :D

Hi Brian,

I had forgotten that I had recorded this back in March using theatre organ sounds and only realised when this would not save with the name Maria. As a result this is MariaWSS as it is the beautiful song from West Side Story. I have given it a more orchestral sound.

Hi Mike,

Nice to see and hear you posting in the Challenge section, your posting sounded very good to me a pleasure to listen to
I think setting up a keyboard takes a long time and is very much an on going thing which sometimes never ends .

Hi Brian,

What I love about the Challenge is that it encourages you to find new music. I was looking for girls names in a book of "standards" and came upon Emily by Johnny Mercer and Johnny Mandel. To the best of my knowledge I have never met Emily before but decided to take her for a spin and this is the result.

I hope that you like her as much as me!

Hi Keith

I have to agree that the challenge does focus you on finding some music and learning to play it in a fairly short time scale
rather that looking for what to play, as to a degree its sorted for you.

Never heard of the song before you posted it but you did a good job on it, some nice voicing and a good clear melody line plus I liked the ending as well

Hello Keith,
I had imagined two spanish guitarists playing the accompaniment in unison and I think this very simple arrangement turned out very well. The left hand is F arpeggiated in the root position, C7 and Bb are arpeggiated in 1st inversion.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Elvira Madigan
This is the only copy of the music I could find. There should be an orchestra playing behind this but I think they have all gone away for the bank holiday. :D :D
I have listened to this again and should not have posted it, is very poor. I hope to practice a bit more and do it again.
