Hi Brian D,

I just have to go back to your East of the Sun and West of the Moon and say (again) ...

East of the Sun and West of the Moon

This really is a superb piece of 'organ' playing! I don't know the song, but have looked it up on YouTube. Obviously a well-known 'oldie'. Thinking about it, I reckon the 'flute sounds' you are using must be Jazz Organ (Hammond). The alternating slow/fast Leslie (Tremolo) really makes this piece. Shows how an 'organ' can really sound in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing.

Hi Hugh,
It is drawbar sounds.
There is something about the harmonies that I like. I think because the tune for the most part on the lower has four note chords together with three note chords on the upper gives it a nice full sound. :D :D

Try a Little Tenderness, just one chorus.

Hi Brian D.

Just had a good listen to East of the Sun and West of the Moon and must say I was blown away by
the organ work on that piece, really well played that.

Brian D,

Try a Little Tenderness .. you've done it again, using the organ 'drawbars' and alternating with the fast/slow Leslie (Tremolo). I just love this sound from an organ. Again, the quality of the sound is superb when taken via your LINE OUT and your Decoder Box. Musicians (which is what we are) are very critical as to sound quality. Do you remember those 'trannies' .. those 'transistor radios' that were the rage when they first came out? No more valves working from the mains or heavy duty batteries, and we could carry them about. They were so 'tinny' I could never listen to them!

Going back to your Decoder Box .. is this a 'stand alone' device which records from the LINE OUT of your organ and does an MP3 recording? I have had one of these in the past, an Encoder / Decoder (picture below):

Mine also cost me £15. They don't seem to be available any more, although there is one left on ebay for £67.70. The problem I had with this device was that it had no means of controlling the Input Volume when doing a recording; and the LINE OUT on my AR had no means of controlling the Output Volume. So if the piece was a bit loud the recording would be overmodulated and distorted.

Brian (007),

Couldn't not put up my version of My Way!

My Way

https://app.box.com/s/c5fzn262op2x8vih3yw66g4mezvg2uft

Now ..

My version is mostly 'strings' (with a bit of Saxophone). Much prefer your choice of sound .. 'drawbar organ' with fast/slow Leslie (Tremolo). This really suits a 'slow, laid back' Sinatra song. Haven't I often said that it's really great to hear another arrangement of a piece? So I shall be having another go at this using 'flute' sounds instead of strings.

Hugh

PS. If anybody says they like this piece, I shall kill them!

Hi Hugh,

I enjoyed you version of My Way I found it very good the way you did it and a nice change.
They do say that this is one of the most covered songs by loads of different artists including "The Sexpistols"

Hello Hugh,

I enjoyed your performance of My Way, a nice selection of voices. :D :D
That is the same box that I use. If I am getting distortion, I turn the master volume on the organ down but even if the playback
from the decoder sounds a bit distorted, when I transfer onto Cakewalk, it sounds fine.
Probably achieve the same results transferring onto Audacity.
I record onto a memory stick and transfer the results onto Cakewalk, I don't usually require any further tinkering with the
results.
I got lots of results on ebay for the box with the cheapest about £60.
Seems they are cashing in on the popularity of the device.

Hi Brian x 2 and Hugh. Enjoyed my varied listen of all the tunes. Some excellent version of them with good styles sounds and arrangements. It's a pity others do not join in, but it has been discussed many times and I fear it will only continue with a select few. It is a pity, personally I think there should be two sections. We can but try. John
