Theme - Elvis Presley

Postby Brian007 » 20 Mar 2015 08:34

Well its Friday so here is the weekends challenge, which starts from 6pm tonight and runs until 6am Monday

Last week we had The Beatles who could arguably have had the greatest influences on pop music here in the u.k.
well this weekends artist is a American who possibly shares the same accolade. Elvis Presley who produced a vast
array of music from ballads to rock to gospel so a wide palette to choose from

Elvis has entered the challenge,

Hi Brian,
I got right on it and played this Elvis oldie on my Orla Ringway Organ. It was certainly a work out on the bass pedals. Anyway, here it is

Here in true Blue Peter fashion is one I have posted before but fits the bill here

"Love Me Tender" is a 1956 song recorded by Elvis Presley and published by Elvis Presley Music from the eponymous 20th Century Fox film. The words and music are credited to Ken Darby under the pseudonym "Vera Matson", the name of his wife, and Elvis Presley. The RCA Victor recording by Elvis Presley was no. 1 on both the Billboard and Cashbox charts in 1956. The song was adapted from the tune of "Aura Lee" (or "Aura Lea"), a sentimental Civil War ballad.

Hi Brian,
Very nicely voiced and played.
As far as I know, Elvis never wrote anything, the unscrupulous colonel told the song writers that Elvis gets a share in the writing or he doesn't sing the song. What option did they have ? 50% of royalties from an Elvis record could not be sneezed at.

Perhaps an unusual Elvis song which I first heard at the funeral of a very special child.

Hi Papadeedee - a nice arrangement and very well played.

Hi JohnT - Of all the songs Elvis recorded and sold millions of I think that Wooden Heart was the worst by miles. Your version was as good as that by Elvis but that tune sits with the Birdie Song in my cupboard!

Definitely Mem'ries or Memories in my Elvis books. I have "The Way We Were" somewhere so will try to find it.

Keith

5 minutes later....... We are both right - in a different book as "The Way We Were".

Hi Jacko,
I particularly enjoyed your perfomance, that tune was my dad's party piece. He never managed to get the words right because by the time he was ready to sing, I think he had a wee bit too many glasses of the amber nectar.
cheers,

Postby Hugh-AR » 13 Jul 2016 10:15

Only just found this posting.

Brian(007) .. can you add a few words to the Subject Line of your first posting so we can see at a glance what we have in here? Elvis Presley. You have done most of the others and removed 'closing dates' etc. I have changed the heading on this posting, but of course it needs to be changed in the first posting to show up on the 'Home Page'. I can contribute to this posting (what a choice we have here!), but will wait until there is more possibility of other Members spotting it and taking a look.

Brian D .. loved your Don't be cruel. Your Orla certainly makes a good sound. You have got that 'beat' down to a 'T'. Did you really do all that bass part with the footpedals? That is quite something! I can play the pedals on my AR, but not to that extent. I usually put a 'pattern' into my Style that is picked up with the AutoBassChord function, but then of course you don't get definitive notes playing in the piece. Anyway, what you have done here is brilliant. Do you still have your Orla? And have you any other organs/keyboards?

Hi Hugh,
I did play all of the bass with my left foot.
I still have the Orla but much prefer my Yamaha EL 70. I have recently added a Hammond drawbar module to the Ringway.
I also have an old Yamaha digital Grand piano and a newer Lowrey digital piano.
Not set up I still have a Yamaha DX 11. I'll have to try it out some time to see if it still works.
The reason I am not posting anything just now is because I am practising rootless voices in all 12 keys at present and some bebop scales as I want to develop a more jazzy type style.
I am listening to all of the posts, maybe I'll take some time out and post something on the next challenge. :D :D :D
