Putting YouTube and Soundcloud Embedded LINKS into your post

YouTube (for Soundcloud, scroll down)

Wotcha folks,

As we are now getting more members posting their music via a youtube link could I please ask that you use the BBCode to ensure the video is embedded so it can be viewed without navigating away from the boards.

There are several types of youtube links that are applied to videos for sharing, the important thing to remember here is we are only interested in the 11 digit identity number contained in all types of youtube link.

........www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EFWVvDMpFMXXXxxXxXxxXx (with this type of link the ident number is always immediately after the ?v=)
........//youtu.be/o9fHKa92b-w

Easiest method of applying the code to the link is as follows ...

1. Paste the whole link into your message as you normally would.
2. Run your cursor over the 11 digit ident number to highlight it.
3. Once the number is highlighted, click on the 'youtube' BBCode tab above the message box (last tab on the right) to add the code to the ident number (ensure not to leave any spaces between the code and the identity number)
4. You will then have something like this .........Image
5. Finally, just delete anything that is outside, before and/or after, the two pieces of code you have added to the identity number just leaving something like this ....... Image

After you have finished your message just submit in the normal way.

This procedure may appear to be a bit fiddly - but after you have done it a couple of time it will become second nature when posting a youtube link .... and, it will save me a shed load of work editing your posts

Many thanks ....

YouTube

Of course you can do all this 'by hand' too. Put the cursor just to the right of the '=' sign. Delete everything to the left. To the left of what is left, type [youtube] using the keypad (open square bracket; youtube; close square bracket); and [/youtube] (open square bracket; slash; youtube; close square bracket) at the end. Job Done.

(To the left of what is left? What a funny language we have!)

When watching 'Embedded' YouTube clips, please read the comments I have put up in Technical:

Soundcloud

We are now able to 'Embed' Soundcloud LINKs into the Forum so you can listen to the music without navigating away from the post you are reading (as with YouTube).

But ...

The process for doing this is a little more complicated. So just put the Soundcloud URL (Web Address) "as is" into your post and one of the Administrators will add in the Soundcloud LINK underneath your URL. So don't use the soundcloud BBCode appearing above the posting box .. leave us to do that.

Although putting music into Box seems to be the order of the day, there are quite a few Members who do use Soundcloud for their music. Brian007's comment about Soundcloud is, "Soundcloud is good, you are allowed 180 minutes of music, and no restrictions on file size (as far as I know) and the ability to upload background graphics. The 180 minutes is enough for sixty 3 minute songs, which is a lot,"

This is what a Souncloud entry looks like (the one below is one of mine):

Rock 'n Roll is King

Click the orange marker on the Soundcloud LINK below to ‘Play’

YouTube LINKS

There is a short cut for getting the letters and numbers to the right of that equals sign.

    1. Put your cursor into the post where you want your YouTube clip to appear.

    2. Click on youtube, above the posting box. This will insert the BBCodes for YouTube into your post, with a flashing cursor between them (the BBCodes are in 'square' brackets).

    3. Go to the YouTube clip you want to Embed. Something like:
    Code: Select all
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HWAEbXBYc8
You need the letters and numbers after the equals sign.

    4. Put your mouse anywhere over the top of those letters and numbers and double-click. The letters and numbers bit will be highlighted (not the whole thing). With the mouse still over the top over the highlighted bit, do a right-click. Choose Copy (left-click). This will 'Copy' that bit of CODE to your clipboard. You can try all this on the example just above.

    5. Go back to where you are doing your post. The cursor should be still flashing where you left it. If not, you'll have to click with the mouse to put the cursor back between the two BBCodes. On he keypad, hold down the Ctrl and press the letter V. This will PASTE what is on the clipboard into where the cursor was flashing (or use the Mouse to do this).

Job done.
