Hi ALL,

In addition to the previous two videos here is how to find out if you can make a video of a song you have covered

Hi Brian,

This is an interesting subject, and thanks for the Videos you have put up about this .. particularly the one by Pete Johns.

I think there are two aspects to this:

1. Putting up a direct recording of a work performed by somebody else.

Eg. Michael Jackson's Earth Song. Below is the 'Official Video' put out by Michael Jackson.

.. and here is a video using Michael Jackson's original MP3 soundtrack attached to the scrolling words of the song, put up by killingloneleyness01 in 2008. It has had over 10 million views, and his Channel has 27K subscribers.

I think using original soundtrack recordings are a different ballgame to performing a 'Cover' of a song on a keyboard.

2. Playing a song composed and performed by somebody else (ie. doing a 'Cover' of the song).

I think I would agree with a comment someone has put under Pete Johns' Video:
I find it somewhat of a compliment when my song gets flagged - means it sounds at least somewhat in tune!

This is the Cover I put up playing this song on my AR 80 Organ.

This song has not been 'flagged'.

Brian ...

I have gone to your LINK and looked up what they have to say about Earth Song on YouTube, and there is this:

This would seem to imply that we can do pretty well what we want to with Michael Jackson's Earth Song.

I think your YouTube LINK

https://www.youtube.com/music_policies

... will prove very useful, and I will certainly check it out before putting another Cover Song on YouTube. But I also think that stopping amateur keyboard players from airing their 'Cover Songs' on YouTube is a non starter (despite Article 13 .. which I will check out as you have put up another post about this). It's a bit like trying to stop the flood once the flood gates have been opened; or trying to stop Internet Shopping to save the High Street.
